WINDSOR125 Public Art Installation Call to Artists
WINDSOR125 Public Art – The City of Windsor, with generous funding from the Canadian Department of Heritage; Building Communities Through Arts and Heritage program is inviting Windsor artists to participate in creating a public art installation.
The City of Windsor is seeking to commission an artist or artist-led team to create a permanent new creation to be integrated onto the 2 facades of the transformer casing in the parking lot of 401 Riverside Drive. The commissioned artist(s) will be expected to complete the project by June 23, 2017. Artists may apply for one or both of the locations with the deadline remaining firm.
Artwork must focus on the celebration of the City of Windsor’s 125th Birthday – commemorating the date in 1892 when assent was given to the incorporation of the City of Windsor – to help our community celebrate 125 years in an interesting and unique way. The final created work will commemorate the date in a way that becomes a permanent part of the stories that are told to the public for generations to come.
“This is another great opportunity to celebrate Windsor’s 125th birthday through our local artists’ interpretations of our stories,” said Mayor Drew Dilkens. “We are extremely grateful to the Federal Government for the overwhelming support towards this legacy project in the heart of our cultural hub.”
The competition is open to artists living in the City of Windsor, Ontario. Applications may be made by individual artists or a group of artist collaborators (all artist collaborators must be residents of the City of Windsor).
Budget for the project is Short Wall: $7,350 or Longer Wall: $14,650. Total budget for the public art project is $22,000.
