Windsor’s 130th Birthday Celebration and Mayor’s Walk

The City of Windsor’s annual birthday celebration and Mayor’s Walk return for 2022, marking the 130th anniversary of incorporation for the municipality.

Everyone is invited to this free community event packed with fun for the entire family on Saturday, May 21, 2022, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. There will be several exciting opportunities and family-friendly activities for everyone to enjoy in celebration of this great city.

Annual Mayor’s Walk

10:00 a.m. at Assumption North Park on the Waterfront

Gather shortly before 10:00 a.m. at Assumption North Park on the waterfront to warm up with the City’s Departments of Parks & Facilities and Recreation & Culture. Mayor Drew Dilkens, members of Windsor City Council and special guests will be on hand for the event kick-off. Representatives of the Multicultural Council of Windsor and Essex County will be present and handing out country flags representing the homelands of some of Windsor’s diverse community members. The Mayor’s Walk will proceed along the waterfront from Assumption North Park to Dieppe Gardens and will feature performances by Abridged Opera, Windsor Light Music Theatre, and Windsor Police Pipe Band.

“Windsor is a community unlike any other, and we have much to celebrate. We have worked tirelessly, made many sacrifices, and supported one another throughout the ongoing pandemic. It is wonderful to be able to gather together once again, safely and in person, to celebrate our City’s milestone birthday. Windsor is one of Canada’s most diverse, welcoming and inclusive communities – a city built on multiculturalism and the many stories that have brought us all together. With amazing and unprecedented investments in infrastructure, amenities and services, Windsor’s future is both bright and electric. I look forward to walking our waterfront alongside residents carrying country flags representing our cultural mosaic, and to celebrating Windsor130 with everyone as we write the next chapter of the Windsor story together.”

We will pause at the base of the Great Canadian Flag for the singing of our national anthem, and a special ceremony marking the fifth anniversary of the raising of the flag at its waterfront location. Members of the Great Canadian Flag Project Committee will be present for this milestone moment as we celebrate with performances by the Windsor Symphony Community Orchestra and the Ukrainian National Federation Dancers. The walk will continue through Dieppe Gardens and up towards the Vision Corridor adjacent to Adventure Bay and the Chimczuk Museum and Art Windsor-Essex building.

Windsor130 Birthday Celebration

The City’s Indigenous Storyteller Theresa Sims will present a song of welcome and friendship.
