2021 Jane’s Walk Festival Explores Home at Home

The 2021 Windsor Jane’s Walk Festival (May 7 – 9) organizers are calling on community members to host digital walking tours and create artwork celebrating their neighbourhood. Deadline to sign up to host a live tour is April 7, 2020 and art submissions can be sent in any time before the festival.

  • Host a Digital Tour: Tell the stories of your neighbourhood in person (live streamed tour, live Zoom presentation, or pre-recorded video) or submit a self-guided tour.
  • Postcards from Home – Art Submission: Submit a postcard about your neighbourhood (video, photography, poetry, prose, visual art, whatever!).

The festival invites Windsorites to share what’s special about their neighbourhoods: history, people, architecture, design, ecology. Everyone’s an expert in their own community and anyone can lead a Jane’s Walk.

“Incredibly, this is our second digital festival. We had to adapt quickly last year to the reality of the pandemic, but now, we are all equipped with more tools and know-how to thrive in an online format.”

SARAH MORRIS, Windsor Jane’s Walk City Organizer

The deadline to sign up to host a digital tour is April 7, 2021. Submissions will then be launched on Jane’s Walk Weekend: May 7-9, 2021. Submission guidelines: WindsorJanesWalk.ca.

The Jane’s Walk Festival is a global weekend of free, citizen-led walking tours celebrating neighbourhoods and honouring the legacy of urbanist Jane Jacobs. Windsor has hosted Jane’s Walk tours since 2009. For the 2020 Digital Festival, community members contributed live streamed walking tours, videos, photography, colouring pages, songs, audio documentaries and an oil painting – all about their Windsor neighbourhoods.
