Biz X Was There – 2023 International Women’s Day Fashion Show

After several years of being unable to organize fashion show events, on March 3, 2023, 270 guests attended the ninth annual St. Nicholas Macedonian Centre Fashion Show.

Despite the snowstorm, this fundraising event — organized by Teodora Taleski, with the help of Dr. Elizabeth Taleski, Liljana Djurovic, and Vera Najdovska — was a huge success.

“After not being able to keep up with our yearly traditions, it was hard getting back into things, however with hard work and commitment from my wonderful organizing team of powerful women, we were able to put together an amazing event,” states the main organizer of the event, Teodora Taleski. “The women of our community take part in organizing a fundraising fashion show each year around International Women’s Day; sometimes raising money for women in need, and at other times fundraising for the community in general. Our annual fashion show is how we try our best to give back to the community, empower women (especially young women), and honour International Women’s Day.”

For the 2023 event, part of the proceeds were donated to the WE-SPARK Health Institute at the University of Windsor. $5,000 to be exact! At the Institute areas of research from fundamental to clinical, technology and innovation and risk factors, prevention and outcomes are studied.

The guest speaker of the evening was Dr. Lisa Porter, Executive Director of WE-SPARK Health Institute and a Distinguished Professor in the Department of Biomedical Sciences at the University of Windsor.

The night began with dinner followed by the fashion show (choreographed by Liljana Djurovic) with fashions for men and women, a lottery, and musical performances.

The Master of the Ceremony, Cathy Marentette, introduced the fashions from — Envy Boutique, Joe Fresh, Hudson’s Bay, Freeds, The Suit Shop Co. Ltd., His and Hers Bridal, and Sophie’s Gown Shoppe — also modelled for the evening.

Musical performances by Teodora Taleski singing My Heart Will Go On by Celine Dion, DVO, and Adam Butcher charmed the crowd with their angelic voices. Music throughout the evening was played by Gordon Damevski.

All in attendance were able to enjoy a great night of food, fashion, friends and family!

The Macedonian banquet centre is located at 5225 Howard Avenue, LaSalle. Serving the community for over 45 years, the centre is currently booking weddings, showers, corporate business meetings, fundraising galas and parties.
