2nd Annual Nerd Olympics Kicks Off

Sixteen teams representing local technology companies, media, the university and college are competing for ultimate nerd glory.

The second annual Nerd Olympics II – powered by WEtech Alliance – kicked off Tuesday at the Opening Ceremonies with the lighting of the Nerd Torch followed by the first competition – archery – held at the Windsor Sportsmen’s Club.

Over the next two months, local tech teams will compete in disc golf, trampoline, nerd trivia, curling and rock band.

“Tech companies circle Nerd Olympics in their calendars months in advance because it’s such a great time,” says Yvonne Pilon, President and CEO of WEtech Alliance. “It also brings the tech community closer together.”

In addition to the sporting events, teams will compete in two community challenges that will raise donations for Canadian Blood Services and The Welcome Centre Shelter for Women.

3D printed medal ceremonies follow every event.

The Closing Ceremony on November 17th will conclude with the hoisting of the Nerd Cup and coincide with the Tech Awards ceremonies that top-off the first-ever Tech Week YQG celebrations across Windsor-Essex – also organized by WEtech Alliance.
