Windsor Parade Corporation Canada Day Plans
The Windsor Parade Corporation has announced plans for Canada Day. Funding through the Government of Canada’s Celebrate Canada stream is making it possible for the Parade Corporation to launch a series of virtual activities, family activities and Summer Fest Commemorative throwback videos for this year. The Chairman of the Board of the Corporation Jeremy Pillon announced the funding, which was followed by an impromptu performance by “The FireGuy” a perennial favourite performer at Summer Fest.
Highlights for 2020 will include:
- YourTV is preparing a series of Throwback videos highlighting memorable moments from Summer Fest over the past 16 years. The Fire Guy will provide video introductions and comment.
- July 1 the band “Leave Those Kids Alone” will perform a special presentation of Oh Canada that can be viewed on the Parade Corporation’s Facebook Page
In conjunction with AM 800 two new activities. Canada Day Rocks encourages people to look for specially painted stones or create commemorative Canada Day Stones. Once found or created take a picture of the stone, leave it for someone else and email your submission to AM 800. Winners will be announced on July 6 on the Mike and Lisa Show. Tourism Windsor Essex Pelee Island and Canadian Tire furnish prizes. The Multicultural Council of Windsor Essex is a proud contributor to this project.
Porch Parades are a brand new idea that encourages residents to decorate their Porches, yards, or balcony to Celebrate Canada Day. In the absence of the traditional Canada Day Parade, people are being encouraged to create their own Canada Day entry, take a photo and email it to AM 800. Once again prizes will be furnished by Tourism Windsor Essex Pelee Island and Canadian Tire.
