Beach Grove Golf and Country Club marks its centennial year in 2021 by aiming to raise $100,000 for Tecumseh and Windsor-Essex organizations

The Club agreed that one of the best ways to commemorate its 100th anniversary is by giving back to the community. As a result, Beach Grove has embarked on various fundraising initiatives including, sponsorship opportunities, a donor program and member campaign in an attempt to raise $100,000 in 2021.

These funds will be distributed to support the four pillars of the Beach Grove Centennial Charitable Initiative, pillars include the areas of Children, Mental Health, Hospitals and Community. Beach Grove hopes to set an example of giving back to the community by encouraging other corporations within the County to consider similar initiatives in 2021, recognizing the struggle and impacts that COVID-19 has had on the area.

The selected charities include the Windsor Cancer Centre, WE Care for Kids, UHC – Hub of Opportunity (formally known as the Unemployed Help Centre) and Canadian Mental Health Association.

“There are several needs in our community. We are all aware of a family or business that has been challenged during the COVID-19 pandemic. We are thankful to have very generous members at Beach Grove who will support the Club’s initiatives and inspire others to do the same.”

Beach Grove President Frank Dayus

The golf sector has a tremendous reputation of being charitable and prides itself on the enormous fundraising efforts put on by the PGA, LPGA and Champions Tour’s that donate to a multitude of charities and provide financial support to good causes.

“In keeping with golf’s remarkable philanthropic character, the Centennial Committee decided to create a charitable initiative as part of the 100-year Anniversary legacy,” adds Centennial Chair and Vice President Karl Straky. “The goal is to raise $100,000 and announce final results during our 2021 New Year’s Eve Gala as a way to commemorate the 100th Anniversary, to leave a legacy within the community and bring the year-long celebrations to an end.”

The Club has a deep-rooted history within the community, since the day of its inception in 1921, dating back to the days of prohibition. During those early years, there were many hardships and struggles the Club had to overcome including the Great Depression, a devastating fire that destroyed the original Clubhouse, privations of WWII and the Lake St Clair shoreline flood of 1973. What these historic challenges afforded the Club was an opportunity to grow stronger, together with the support of the members and the community. The Centennial Celebrations will kick-off January 10, 2021, the Club’s 100th Birthday and carry on throughout the year.
