Bollywood Musical Fundraiser Tops $18,000
An online live fundraiser of musical performances for the Windsor Regional Hospital Foundation hit the right note for the Gujarati Samaj of Windsor group.
With a goal of raising $5,000-$11,000, the group was ecstatic to announce on October 21, 2020 that its Bollywood Breeze fundraiser surpassed its target raising $18,207.
On June 20, 2020, the group held a two hour virtual fundraiser with Bollywood songs performed by a professional group in India broadcast Live via social media.
Members in Windsor-Essex watched, but what the group didn’t anticipate was the outpouring of support and donations.
Group President Yashesh Dholakia says the event was organized within nine days and he is proud that 90 percent of its members donated to the cause.
“This was a record breaking collection for us,” he says. “This was an unexpected response from the people and our members.”
Past President Samir Thaker says they were receiving calls during the online program from members asking how to donate.
The money will be used to purchase patient monitors, infusion pumps and Glidescope blades for the Intensive Care Units.
“The thing that really makes a difference to our staff in the hospital is the support we get from the Windsor-Essex community,” says Karen Riddell, Vice President of Critical Care. “I think this is another example of the selflessness of our community because everyone has their COVID anxiety.”
