Build A Dream Focuses On Digital Education During COVID-19
Like all organizations across the country, Build a Dream had to make difficult decisions and change programming based on issues the COVID-19 outbreak created. This included postponing Spring career discover expos in 5 Ontario cities and 1 in Calgary, Alberta.
“It was such a tough thing to do, just as we had gained so much momentum,” says Nour Hachem-Fawaz, President and Founder, Build a Dream. “We were about to reach more young women and their parents in new regions, and introduce them to exciting career pathways. It was hard to push those events back but we knew it was necessary, and then we immediately shifted to how we could still offer career exploration but in new ways.”
For Build a Dream, some of those new offerings include . . .
- Daily Facebook live interviews with women in industry and male champions, offering career advice, and insight on diversifying the workforce.
- Prepping episodes for the launch of the ‘Dare to Dream’, a podcast that unveils the realities of diversifying the workforce.
- Planning a digital career conference for young women in grades 7-12 (and their parents) scheduled for May 27. Similar to live expos, the online version still includes inspirational speakers,
- Career planning advice, and the ability to ask professionals questions about their careers (all without leaving home).
- Posting a survey for people to tell Build a Dream what would help them at this time, whether it is connections, advice, webinars, or accessing resources.
