Pasta Fundraiser for Can-Am Indian Friendship Centre

The University of Windsor Social Work Student Association is holding an All You Can Eat pasta fundraiser in support of the Can-Am Indian Friendship Centre which suffered losses of approximately $50,000 due to the  floods back in August. Their space was rented and they just recently found out their tenant insurance will not cover a majority of the losses which included property, materials and furniture. Money raised will be used to replace projectors, program materials and furniture. Funds will also assist them in securing a permanent location for a new Can-Am Indian Friendship Centre.

If you would like to help out you can do so by attending the pasta dinner fundraiser that takes place on November 16, 2017 from 6p.m. to 10p.m. at the Fogolar Furlan Club of Windsor located at 1800 North Service Rd, Windsor.

The Can-Am Indian Friendship Centre, 2929 Howard Avenue, Windsor, provides programs regarding mental health, alcohol and drug recovery and literacy services for First Nations, Metis, and Inuit individuals in the Windsor-Essex community.

Kiera Royle, President of the University of Windsor Social Work Student Association says the Indigenous community faces enough barriers and doesn’t need any more.

The Centre is our community’s main provider for services for First Nations, Metis, and Inuit individuals,” said Royle. “We strongly believe we cannot stand by and not assist in any way we can as a student association to help them re-open”

Admission is $15 a ticket with an all you can eat dinner of pasta (vegetarian/vegan and meat options), salad, buns, and tea and coffee. The event will have a variety of raffles for attendees to enter in. Children 12 years and younger are $5.

Tickets can be purchased in-person at the School of Social Work, 167 Ferry Street, Windsor, on Thursdays from 11:30-1pm in Room 104, and on Tuesdays and Fridays from 10-12pm in Room 234. The last day to buy tickets is Nov 14, 2017. Tickets will not be available at the door.
