1st Annual Canada South Songwriting Contest
Submissions are now being accepted for the 1st annual Canada South Songwriting Contest in conjunction with the Kingsville Folk Music Festival.
“We’re excited to bring this new showcasing event to the 3rd annual Kingsville Folk Music Festival!” said Producer Michele Law. Co-Producer John Law added, “There are some really talented songwriters in our region and beyond. This contest gives these writers the opportunity to showcase their craft, be judged by their peers and an opportunity to perform at the festival!”
Writer-performers age 18 and over are invited to submit individual song entries, not to exceed five minutes each, no later than June 30, 2016.
Five finalists will be selected to perform in the contest at the Kingsville Folk Music Festival on Saturday, August 13, 2016. Notification will be made by email by July 15, 2016.
One overall winner will receive a $250 prize, plus other prizes TBA, and be invited to perform their winning song onstage later in the festival.
Anyone 18 and over may enter the contest except current 2016 Kingsville Folk Music Festival performers, contest screeners and judges, the producers and board of the Sun Parlour Folk Music Society.
The 3rd annual Kingsville Folk Music Festival takes place August 12-14 at Lakeside Park in Kingsville and features Buffy Sainte-Marie headlining in one of her only solo shows on Saturday evening and Latin Grammy winner Alex Cuba headlining on Sunday evening. 30+ performers, 5 stages, children’s activities, artisans, local foods and beverages are some of the highlights of the 3-day, rain or shine weekend.
