To share and heighten awareness and need in everyone’s life for healthy physical and mental wellness, the Downtown Mission hosted the 2016 DeStress for Distress event in support its Distress Centre Program on Monday, May 30, 2016 at the Ciociaro Club.

DeStress for Distress tickets included dinner, a mini manicure and massage. This is the 9th consecutive year that the event has been presented. The event was emceed by Morgan of the MIX 96.7 who once again did an outstanding job!

A few hundred women were pampered by businesses such as Above & Beyond Massage; Absolute Chiropractic Wellness Centre with reflexology; Arbonne facials by Rita Green; mini manicures by Refresh Day Spa; henna tattoos by The Henna Boutique and Sabins Hair Fashions gave wonderful scalp massages and fixed everyone’s hair with a blow dryer finish.

DeStress for Distress guests were also able to meet vendors and service providers who provide a range of wellness related amenities and receive samples of products or demonstrations including: nutrition, physical fitness, aesthetics, day spa activities, as well as allied health providers like registered massage therapists, and other kinetic related professionals.

Specific vendors in photos below include Jamberry Nails; Jenna Providenti from TMG The Mortgage Group and Laurie Ann Aspeleiter from Royal LePage Binder Real Estate Brokerage.

“This is a great way for people to take an evening for themselves and focus on their own wellness and see the range of products and services that are available to help us stay healthy and productive in our daily lives and relationships,” says Rushing Ponniah-Goulin, Director of the Distress Centre program.

In December 2015, the Distress Centre of Windsor-Essex County began providing its services to people experiencing a need for support as a new program of the Downtown Mission.

With an annual call volume of more than 3,000 people in crisis, who need support, empathy, understanding, and vital information about community programs, the volunteers of the Distress Centre are very familiar with finding ways to relieve stress through a range of coping mechanisms.

“The Mission is pleased to be the caretaker of this incredible community service,” states Ron Dunn Executive Director of the Downtown Mission. “The transition to a program of the Downtown Mission was seamless and services were maintained through the changeover. It was also a good fit for our portfolio of programs and is very important service for people experiencing distress.”

Biz X magazine along with Butterfield Limousine Service, Diva Floral Designs and the MIX 96.7 were proud sponsors of the event. Linda’s Fashions & Accessories was also a ticket seller and check out the owner’s beautiful red dress in the photos here!
