KINGSVILLE COUNCIL DECLARES NOVEMBER 1ST – 7TH, 2017 DOWN SYNDROME AWARENESS WEEK

The Town of Kingsville has joined the country in proclaiming November 1-7, as Down Syndrome Awareness Week.

This week was introduced by the Canadian Down Syndrome Society to show the world that Canada is a place where all people are valued and have the opportunity to be fully participating citizens. Their mission is to empower Canadians with Down syndrome and their families. This year’s theme is “See the Ability”.

“This proclamation of Down Syndrome Awareness Week is important to the Town of Kingsville,” stated Mayor Santos,” it is a week for everyone to recognize diverse abilities of Canadians with Down Syndrome.”

The Town of Kingsville is challenging its residents to take over the internet with a selfie and the hashtag #seetheability #kingsville. “See The Ability” is the Canadian Down Syndrome message aimed to encourage the inclusion and celebration of people with Down syndrome, and to dispel myths and stereotypes.
