EPICentre & Libro Credit Union Host May 2021 Virtual Pitch Competition

Over the past three months, six changemakers have been participating in the Libro-Social Enterprise Program hosted by the University of Windsor EPICentre. This program, funded by Libro Credit Union, allowed flourishing social entrepreneurs to engage in various virtual activities and events in order to help them build, grow and thrive in the local social enterprise landscape.

On Thursday May 6, 2021 this program will culminate in the Social Enterprise Final Pitch Competition.

“Despite the challenges we all face due to the pandemic, we are extremely proud of our cohort of what they were able to learn and accomplish in the past three months. We are also very grateful to Libro Credit Union for their continuing support in social enterprises. Together, we can all contribute to positive impacts in our community,” says Wen Teoh, EPICentre Director.

Program participants will pitch their business ideas to a panel of judges including Lori Atkinson, Windsor-Essex Regional Manager of Libro Credit Union, Wen Teoh, EPICentre Director, Julie Forrester, Manger of impact Consulting at Pillar Nonprofit Network and Joseph Heraldo, Enterprise Resource Planning Specialist at Canadian Premiere Supplements.

The changemakers will be competing for one of two cash prizes sponsored by Libro Credit Union. The Top Pitch Award worth $5000 will be selected by the panel of judges and the Peoples Choice award worth $1000 will be determined by the live audience.

“At Libro, we operate with purpose beyond profit, meaning everything we do is with the goal of growing prosperity in our communities. We’re proud of our partnership with the University of Windsor EPICentre and excited to join this panel of judges this year. All the candidates in this year’s cohort are pitching social enterprise ideas that promote Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, support the environment and align with Libro’s pillars: Employment, Financial Resilience, Local Food Accessibility and Housing. This program sets a strong foundation for social entrepreneurs to work towards addressing some of the most challenging issues facing our region. We’re really proud of the work they have accomplished so far and wish everyone the best of luck for their final pitch!”
