Family Services Windsor-Essex Celebrates Donation From Caesars Windsor

Family Services Windsor-Essex is honored to announce a $5000 donation from the Caesars Windsor Cares program to benefit the new Senior Bullying Presentation being offered to the residents and staff of local senior facilities.

The Senior Bullying Awareness Program focuses on educating and bringing awareness to the issue of senior bullying in the Windsor-Essex County community. Seminars are provided by Family Services Windsor-Essex to staff working in, and residents residing in, long-term care facilities, retirement homes, senior housing, community centers, and adult day program centers. The seminars include research based information to help identify and explain what senior bullying is and why it occurs, along with intervention strategies to help reduce and prevent senior bullying in our community.

“Bullying is a buzz word we typically reserve for children and teens, but bullying continues across the lifespan and many seniors experience bullying by their aging peers,” said Joyce Zuk, Executive Director of Family Services Windsor-Essex. “Keep in mind that all the attention, research, and legislation around bullying is relatively new, and our seniors generally don’t know what behaviour falls onto the bullying spectrum. We are very grateful to Caesars Windsor Cares for their support of our new Senior Bullying Presentation to bring awareness and education to those experiencing bullying or caring for those who may experience bullying.”

“Providing resources to strengthen the community where we work and live is a core value of Caesars Windsor Cares program,” said Susanne Tomkins, Public and Community Relations Specialist, Caesars Windsor. “We are pleased to provide funding to the Senior Bullying Awareness program to prevent future generations of seniors in our community from experiencing the pressure of bullying.” The press release and cheque presentation were followed by a full presentation of the same Senior Bullying material being offered to seniors and care-givers across the region.
