While the temperature outside continues to drop, the DWBIA has been hard at work planning programs in order to continue to beautify the core with flowers for Downtown Windsor, the gateway to our city for many visitors and residents alike
The Winter, the poles on Ouellette Avenue, between Riverside Drive and Wyandotte, have been decked out with festive cedar roping and hanging holiday baskets, creating a sense of excitement and merriment over the holidays. Take a stroll or drive down the main strip and enjoy our local shopping options and perhaps even a hot cup of cocoa or two. Excitement is in the air in Windsor’s downtown and is just waiting for you to take it all in.
The return of the Floral and Plant Beautification Program this upcoming spring and summer is open to all downtown merchants and is an opportunity to beautify the streetscape with flowers, plants, and planters aimed to make our storefronts more inviting and engaging.
The DWBIA matches up to 50% of all beautification purchases including plants, plant materials, planter and flowers in order to help increase the commercial appeal of the participant’s storefront.
Ryan Smith, owner of Pause Cafe said, “The program definitely adds character to the downtown and brightens things up. It’s an opportunity for the vendors to set themselves apart and creates a beautiful ambiance for the patios. It makes for a more vibrant downtown and gives each business an opportunity to showcase floral colours.”
It’s a very easy process and I hope this year that more merchants will take advantage of the program.” A greener and blooming streetscape is a priority for the DWBIA and merchants are highly encouraged to take part this upcoming spring season.
When the community works together, Windsor continues to be a wonderful place to work, visit, live and grow.
