A Girl Like Me – A New Musical By Arts Collective Theatre

Arts Collective Theatre, in partnership with The Greater Essex County District School Board Bullying Prevention and Intervention Committee, and the Windsor Police Services, have announced the Social Justice Theatre Project 2017, “A GIRL LIKE ME” on May 31, and June 1 at Walkerville Collegiate Institute.

This brand-new musical conceived and directed by Chris Rabideau, with music and lyrics by Kathy Costa and Chris Rabideau, and book by Chris Rabideau and Linda Lord, is about a teenaged girl named Nibi from a remote area of northern Saskatchewan, who moves to Windsor-Essex County after a family tragedy.  Nibi must navigate through life in a new city, new school, and new community.  She quickly learns about the impact of social media and how important it is to communicate with peers, school staff, and family members when difficult situations arise.  This project began with a series of workshops with local youth between the ages of 12 – 17  in January and February with the goal of creating a new teen musical based on their lives.  These workshops became the basis for A Girl Like Me.

This show has relevant emotionally impactful themes, fun, loving characters, and an amazing musical score you’ll be humming long after the show closes.

ACT is proud to provide the opportunity for local artists to work with community partners on producing new work that inspires and creates change through its social justice theatre project and A Girl Like Me is a perfect example of this.  Come out and support local artists and youth.  Don’t miss this powerful show!  May 31 and June 1 at Walkerville Collegiate Institute, doors open at 6:30pm, show starts at 7:00pm.  Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for students and can be purchased at the door or online
