Grant Aids Dr. Michelle Prince Comfort Care Tote Program

WFCU Credit Union Receives a $10,000 Grant from Concentra for the Transition to Betterness Dr. Michelle Prince Comfort Care Tote Program

Today, WFCU Credit Union proudly accepted a $10,000 grant from Concentra, as part of their ‘Empowering Your Community’ campaign, which will be donated to the Transition to Betterness Dr. Michelle Prince Comfort Care Tote Program.

For over 15 years, WFCU Credit Union has proudly supported Transition to Betterness – a local charitable organization that’s mission is to provide comfort to patients and their families in Windsor Essex County impacted by a life altering illness – donating over $100,000 in support of their programs and services.

“Being recognized and awarded for ongoing support of Transition to Betterness and the Dr. Michelle Prince Comfort Care Tote Program, means so much to so many at WFCU Credit Union,” says Eddie Francis, President & CEO, WFCU Credit Union, and husband of the late Dr. Michelle Prince, explaining that he, along with many staff and members of the credit union, have been directly impacted by cancer, either through their own diagnoses or that of a loved one; which has made supporting the Dr. Michelle Comfort Care Tote Program so important to the WFCU Credit Union family.

Launched in 2018 through Transition to Betterness, in partnership with the Windsor Essex Cancer Centre Foundation, the Dr. Michelle Prince Comfort Care Tote Program, provides high quality, custom tote bags to over 1,100 newly diagnosed oncology patients undergoing chemotherapy treatment in Windsor each year. Each tote is filled with carefully selected items to inform, engage and comfort patients throughout their diagnosis, treatment and recovery journey.

“Michelle’s concern for her own community led her to advocate for the Comfort Care Tote Program,” adds Francis. “Together with the program sponsor ‘The Stephanie and Barry Zekelman Foundation’, and the support of the Polewski Family, they inspired a community to help bring comfort to the patients and families of those in our community undergoing cancer treatment.”

“WFCU’s advocacy and concern for their community is evident in the leadership role they have taken in helping to bring the Comfort Care Tote Program to their community,” said Mike Ivkovic, Associate Vice President, Strategic Alliances, Concentra. “It gives us great pleasure to be able to contribute to their on-going efforts to educate and bring comfort to patients and families in their community impacted by cancer.”

Concentra’s ‘Empowering Your Community’ campaign encourages credit unions across Canada to share projects they are leading or championing, supporting financially and/or in-kind, and which demonstrate their leadership as a credit union within the community for an opportunity to win one of seventeen grants to be put towards their initiatives.

“Concentra’s commitment to the credit union system in Canada and the cooperative values we all share is remarkable,” stated Marty Gillis, Chair, WFCU Credit Union Board of Directors. “They value community as we do, and allow us to further our own outreach in our community thanks to their generous contributions, grants and awards programs.”
