The Annual In Honour of the Ones We Love Gala Supports Cancer Care for Local Patients
The generosity of this community never ceases to amaze Anita Imperioli, Founder, of the In Honour of the Ones We Love organization. The high profile annual gala she organizes, with a group of dedicated volunteers, was once again a sell-out.
This year’s 19th annual event took place on Saturday, February 4th at the Ciociaro Club. The evening featured a champagne and hors d’oeuvres cocktail hour sponsored by Koolini Italian Catering, a seven course gourmet dinner, martini bar, silent auction and raffle. Funds raised to benefit cancer care for local patients and proceeds from the evening’s Table Challenge will go to the John McGivney Children’s Accessible Playground.
The gala was emceed by Kelly Blais, Managing Director of Media Street Productions and Mike Kakuk, Co-host of the Morning Drive for AM 800 CKLW. Music and entertainment was provided by the CIAO band.
Each year this annual event paid tribute to individuals who have lost their battle with cancer. This year’s honourees are Dennis Solet, Josh Krystia, Virginia Moceri, Antonina Moceri and Istvan Mojso. A moving candle lighting ceremony along with a tribute video is a key element of this event and offers each of us a chance to reflect on our collective losses and our relentless determination to support those coping with the devastating consequences of these life threatening illnesses.
Also featured is the prestigious Hand in Hand award presented annually to members of the community who have had a significant impact on the success of In Honour of the Ones We Love. This year’s recipients are Robert and Carol Robinson, Windsor Life Magazine.
The Community Recognition award is presented to an individual who has promoted In Honour over the years with his friendship and belief. This year’s recipient is Mustapha Abdulhamid of the Rafih Auto Group, Lexus.
Since 1998, In Honour of the Ones We Love, Inc. has established itself as one of Windsor Essex County’s most successful fundraising organizations dedicated to improving local patient care for cancer and other life threatening illnesses, including the creation and continuing support of the Kids Beating Cancer -Honourable Little Ninjas program.
