Plasman’s VP of Human Resources Shauna Hatch said, “At Plasman, we have connections with the community at all the plants. Our team members are humble, They’re hard working. They are very community focussed people, and so we feel like the Kids Next Door Project relates to that.” L to R: Ricardo Tate, Team Member Committee; Shauna Hatch, VP Human Resources and Paula Giroux, Executive Administrator, all of the Plasman Group, present a cheque to Dave Freeman, Chair of the WRYM Donor Development Committee.

Plasman Group supports the WRYM Kid Next Door Project

On Tuesday, the Plasman Group of companies presented the Windsor Residence for Young Men (WRYM) with a cheque for $3,000 (three thousand dollars) in support of WRYM’s Kid Next Door Project.

WRYM is a charitable organization that supports young men as they leave homelessness behind to build new lives. WRYM assists 50-60 young men each year, providing a group home and individual counselling, and teaching basic life skills such as hygiene, food acquisition and preparation, budgeting, social responsibility and work ethic. Most of its residents participate in the Kid Next Door Project, which provides them with a practical work and budgeting experience while providing property owners, mostly seniors, with home maintenance services. The homeowner’s pay the young men directly for their assistance. WRYM does not charge homeowners an administrative or supervisory fee.

“The maintenance work is a valuable and practical learning experience for our guys. They learn the value of providing good service, completing the job, and handling money responsibly. The program is very popular. In fact, requests for service have doubled each year. That leaves WRYM facing significant increased costs in providing project management and transportation by staff. As a result, we have asked the community for financial support, and we are very grateful that donors such as the Plasman Group have responded so quickly.” – Dave Freeman, a member of the WRYM Board of Directors and Chair of the WRYM Donor Development Committee

“Each year, we usually ask the Windsor Residence for Young Men for a list of household items that are needed,” said Paula Giroux, Executive Administrator, Plasman Group. “However, this year we would like to support the Kid Next Door Project as it appears this beneficial program could use our help.”
