National Youth Week is May 1- 7 every year, this week is dedicated to celebrating the active participation of our youth.

We honour the recreation, drama, sport, dance, civic engagement, art, volunteerism and leadership involvement among the youth within our communities.

By participating in activities and programs outside of their school environment, teenagers are preparing themselves to take on the world successfully through the developmental work they place upon him or herself. This week is targeted to youth 13 years and older who demonstrate quality leadership and collaborate to build on an existing community within the roles of activities, programs, and much more.

“Through activities, such as recreation and art, youth learn five basic life skills, which include social, moral, ethical, physical and cognitive competence.“ Young people are meeting the seven developmental needs which engage them within their surroundings. These needs are: self-definition, physical activity, meaningful participation, mastery and achievement, positive interaction with adults and peers, structure and clear limits, and creative expression.

Youth development is promoted in order to show the appreciation of hard worked hours and graciously earned praise for their involvement among multiple different programs, activities, and developmental aspects pertaining to their better of the community. Those who passionately support and showcase the talented individuals who will one day prosper into those who run our country. With the help of organizations dedicated to the improvement of youth mindsets, engagement among people younger, their age, or older can bring their collaborative ideas together and form the most innovative program yet!

A Youth Action Plan has been made an initiative in order to place the components of youth engagement, safe communities, and working together therefore enhancing the productiveness of teens involvement within their communities to the best of their abilities. At this time, National Youth Week is basing their videos on the particular interest in programs serving low-income, immigrant or older adult populations.

Don’t forget to add the hashtag #youthweekcanada to help spread the good news of the great things that are happening May 1 – 7th!
