In this installment, coinciding with Biz X’s June 2024 Leamington 160 anniversary events cover, we profile the Mill St. Markets, held on Mill Street West in Leamington, directly behind the Leamington Arts Centre. (LAC).

Mike Chase of Windsor Aerial Drone Photography sent up the drone on the evening of June 7 and also interviewed Chad Riley, Director/Curator of LAC and business owner Lisa Bradt of Cured Craft Brewing Co. The results are in the video below.

There is always something new and exciting going on at these night markets, but first a bit of history on how the events began.

The first Mill St Market the LAC held in partnership with the Municipality of Leamington was in 2019. Previous similar events were held by the BIA and Art in the Parkette by the LAC and Municipality, the predecessors proved to be great success for the community and there was a demand for more, thus the markets as we see them now were launched. There was a two year hiatus due the pandemic in 2020 and 2021.

The events is mainly funded by the generosity of the Municipality with council’s approval, the Uptown Leamington BIA and in partnership with The Bank Theatre for the live music. This year there are four markets planned for June 7, July 12, August 9 and September 13 which is more than other years before.

The LAC is also hosting its 30th Arts @ the Marina event this summer on July 27 & 28 at the Leamington Municipal Marina and we will be opening up our new patio next to the LAC and big tomato, with live music, drinks and other programs in the works.

The Mill St. Markets attract about 3,500 visitors per event with about 50 vendors — arts, crafts, food, drink, general merchandise and just a wide variety of things to see and do. Organizers also added street performers this year, with circus play for kids, faceboard cut outs, cornhole, jugglers, strolling costume characters, stilt walker and busker acts. Four music acts at two locations, the LAC patio and Shotten Park all come tougher to make this a really exciting and great event for all ages. Plus, it is free admission!

If you have not experienced the Mill St. Markets yet, come check it out , . . . it is a must see summer attraction! Vendor spaces are still available and if you are looking to get involved, there are volunteer positions also available.
