ProsperUs Recruiting Local Youth to Help Design Pilot Programs
ProsperUs, a collective of non-profit, government, health care, education, labour, business, and inspired residents with a shared vision of a prosperous Windsor-Essex County, is looking for youth age of 13-25 who live or go to school in the Downtown, West Windsor & Leamington communities to join a Youth Community Action Network (Y-CAN) working group. These youth will co-design solutions to help more kids succeed in school and solve neighbourhood issues, while bringing their unique and important perspectives to the table, along with adult residents, service providers, and subject matter experts.
Y-CAN is part of the broader ProsperUs community vision to ensure every young person in Windsor-Essex County has the opportunity and support to achieve their dreams and reach their potential.
In order to ensure participants feel valued and comfortable to contribute at meetings, a limited group of applicants from the three target neighbourhoods will be selected at this time. Applications are available online.
Youth will be paid $14/hour to participate in monthly Y-CAN meetings, and are able to earn volunteer hours for high school graduation requirements. Travel costs and childcare are also covered for participants, if needed.
Y-CAN is a great opportunity to build a resume and network with other youth and adults with similar interests. It allows young people to have a say and a vote on issues they may face every day, while learning about social design and watching their ideas come to into life.
Members are asked to make a one-year commitment and attend monthly meetings. The application deadline is Wednesday, February 26, 2020 at 3 pm.
