Salvation Army Windsor Announces Temporary Expansion of Emergency Shelter Services

As temperatures continue to drop across Windsor Essex The Salvation Army Windsor Centre of Hope
is taking additional steps to ensure vulnerable community members have access to safe, warm shelter throughout the winter season.

With financial support from the City of Windsor, the Windsor Centre of Hope will implement a temporary expansion of emergency shelter services increasing capacity for single men and for individuals who stay with pets, as of December 8, 2025. These short term measures will remain in place until March 31, 2026, providing additional support during the coldest months of the year.

Expanded Winter Measures Include:

  1. Additional Emergency Shelter Beds for Single Men
  • 16 new beds will be added on the second floor
  • Beds will be arranged across several large rooms with four beds per room
  1. Additional Rooms for Single Men with Pets
  • Two additional pet friendly rooms will be added

All current programs and services at the Windsor Centre of Hope will continue as usual throughout
this temporary expansion. These added beds and rooms are intended to help meet increased need in
the community during the winter period by offering more individuals a safe place to sleep and access
to warm meals.

To support this expansion additional staffing hours will be added in the kitchen and cleaning departments. Service delivery needs will be reviewed again in April 2026.

“This temporary expansion is intended to help us meet the increased need for safe shelter during the winter months. Our aim is to ensure more individuals have a warm place to stay and access to meals.
