Town of LaSalle Flood Warning
Town of LaSalle officials are aware that some streets and properties are experiencing flooding and standing water due to the rain and winds. The Essex Region Conservation Authority (ERCA) advises that, due to moderate-to-strong winds out of the east, a Flood Warning is in effect until noon on Friday, April 24.
Current winds are out of the east at moderate-to-strong speeds (roughly 30 km/hr) and has caused flooding in the area. Persistent strong winds out of this direction may bring additional impacts to low lying areas along the Lake Erie shoreline (including Pelee Island), the Detroit River including LaSalle, as well as Lake St. Clair from Windsor to Belle River. People are encouraged to pay attention to local conditions.
Residents should take extra caution to avoid areas where flooding is occurring, as well as rivers, streams, and shoreline areas. The combination of slippery banks, waves, waves overtopping shoreline structures, and fast moving water can be dangerous. Standing water can also present its own unseen hazards. Children, pets, and livestock should be kept away from flowing or standing water as well as shoreline areas.
Longer-range forecasts indicate some strong winds out of the northeast on Saturday into Sunday, which brings an elevated risk of flooding and erosion to the region, including in LaSalle. Town of LaSalle and ERCA officials will continue to monitor the forecast and local conditions and advise accordingly.
Sandbags and sand are available free of charge for residents in LaSalle who are experiencing flooding. Call the Public Works Department at 519-969-4143 to register for a delivery of 100 empty sandbags. Residents can then bring the bags to one of the free self-service sand filling stations at the former Centennial Arena site (2160 Old Front Road, behind the Goodwill Donation Centre), or at the LaSalle Public Works building (2170 Judy Recker Cres.)
