Ukrainian Owner Of Lobortas Classic Jewellery House Comes To Leamington For Fundraiser
The owner of Lobortas Classic Jewellery House is coming from Ukraine to donate two pieces of jewellery and a statue for a local church.
Igor Lobortas arrives on Thursday, August 25, 2022 and stays in Leamington until Tuesday, August 30. The statue will be donated to St. Michael’s church on Friday, August 26, after the 8:30 a.m. Mass and it will be blessed by the church community in Leamington. These gifts to the community are given to recognize what Leamington has done to help Ukrainians in their struggles in their war-torn country.
When Leamington resident, Mandi Quiring, was challenged by a friend to raise money for Ukraine, she began her campaign locally, but then took it to another level by partnering with Lobortas, a Ukrainian jeweller, to auction off unique pieces.
She had written a letter to several Ukrainian jewellery companies with a message intended to show solidarity and the necessity to work together to help support those in need. She signed the letter as a representative of St. Michael’s Church and Erie Shores South Catholic Family of Parishes.
Of the several jewellery companies she wrote to, only Lobortas actually responded. Lobortas has some very well-known customers, including the British Royal Family and the Pope.
With the support of Lobortas Jewellery and local residents of Leamington, Kingsville and Wheatley, Quiring said she ended up raising $1 million in supplies, including sleeping bags, shoes, clothing and first aid kits, as well as monetary donations, for those living in and those fleeing Ukraine.
Quiring has another auction that she’s holding, in partnership with the charity Southwestern Ontario Gleaners. It’s scheduled for August 27, 2022 and will take place in Leamington.
No doubt it will be another great success and help relieve some of the burden that
Ukraine has to continue to bear.
