We-Tech Alliance Tech Show – “Artificial Intelligence”
As my first blog entry for Biz X magazine, I wanted to talk to let you know about a tech symposium I recently attended on November 14 at the Coboto Club. The event was called the Tech Show and was part of the We-Tech Alliance “Tech Week YQG,” hosted by We-Tech Alliance and Windsor-Essex Regional Chamber of Commerce.
Outstanding presenters explained how artificial intelligence is shaping our world, solving problems and impacting our existing jobs.
- Daphne Jacobs Zargar, Global Manager, General Motors
- Deborah Landers, Vice President Cognitive Solutions, IBM Canada
- Lillian Reaume, Chief Human Resources Officer, Amazon
This conference was inspiring as all three had a personal connection to our area. Daphne works closely with Windsor and her design team includes a local. Deborah Landers, leads a cross-country innovation team while residing in Tecumseh and Lillian Reaume grew up in Windsor working at Ford Motor Co. then Blackberry, Kobo and Amazon.
All presenters spoke highly of our area and resilience and strength. They shared a desire to stay connected with our community.
One of the best parts of being Director of Leadership Windsor-Essex is helping build civic-minded leaders who become “Ambassadors”. Instilling pride is easy when Windsor-Essex was voted one of the 7 Most Intelligent Communities in 2011. Our innovation, diversification and grit is quickly reversing “brain drain” and retaining talent. We are home to 10 of Canada’s fastest growing companies and one of the highest percentages of population with university degrees. 85% of our IT workforce has post-secondary degrees. Combine that with some of the safest places to live, top 25 places for business, affordable housing and great cost of living and we are truly blessed.
I have traveled to over 50 countries and never wanted to live anywhere else. It is “the place to live, work and play” in 2017 and beyond!
