Residents of Windsor Warming up for Canadian Cancer Society CIBC Run for the Cure
On Sunday, September 30, close to 1,000 Windsor and Essex County residents will participate in the Canadian Cancer Society CIBC Run for the Cure by joining the 5k or 1k walk or run that raises funds for the breast cancer cause. In Windsor, the Run is celebrating its 21st year and has raised $3.7 million locally alone and several research grants have been provided directly to the University of Windsor.
Since 1992, the Run has raised more than $430 million for the breast cancer cause, and last year, events across Canada raised $17 million with almost 80,000 participants. The Run is the largest, single-day, volunteer-led event dedicated to raising funds for breast cancer research, support programs, health education and advocacy initiatives.
Opening ceremonies are scheduled for 9:00 a.m. with a warm up set for 9:15 a.m. The 5k and 1k starts at 9:30 a.m.
Awards and closing ceremonies with women, men, families, friends, survivors, researchers, doctors, colleagues, neighbours, students, volunteers and sponsors who support the breast cancer cause will wrap up at 10:15 a.m. at the Riverfront Festival Plaza.
