The WindsorEssex Community Foundation Announces Strategic Partnership
The WindsorEssex Community Foundation recently held an outdoor Press Conference to announce that the Canadian Slovak Villa of Windsor Incorporated has established a $950,000 Endowment Fund with WindsorEssex Community Foundation.
The Canadian Slovak Villa of Windsor has invested in the WindsorEssex Community Foundation to build a fund that will serve as a legacy as well as an opportunity to invest in our community organizations. The Canadian Slovak Villa Inc. will hold a legacy fund that will generate income to grant to support Slovak initiatives today and forever. The Fund will also support local charitable organizations in the work they are doing today.
The Slovak Villa Incorporated’s present Board of Directors has five members: George Mihalo, Chairman; Irene Timko, Secretary; Peter Gallo, Ivan Sutak and Frank Varga, Directors. The Villa had a 35-year mortgage on the property which was paid up at the end of September of 2019. The Board decided it was time to wind up the organization and put the property up for sale. With the sale of the Villa, the Board is now in a position to make a difference and assist various other community organizations.
“The Canadian Slovak Villa of Windsor, Inc. was acquired on October 1, 1984, with assistance from our federal government for the benefit of our senior citizens. The Board of Directors have provided this for the past 35 years. With the sale of the Villa, we are now in a position to make a difference by giving back to the community. The proceeds are being distributed to various community organizations. The donations are thanks to the hard work of many members of the Slovak community, not just the present Board.” Board of Directors, Canadian Slovak Villa of Windsor, Inc.
