Ontario Breaks Ground on New Fancsy Family Hospital in Windsor
New state-of-the-art hospital will connect more people in Windsor-Essex to high-quality hospital care, closer to home
The Ontario government has officially broken ground on Windsor-Essex’s new Fancsy Family Hospital. Supported by the government’s investment of over $202 million, the new hospital will add space for more than 100 additional hospital beds, build world-class health-care infrastructure and help to deliver on the province’s goal to connect every family in Windsor-Essex and the surrounding communities to a family doctor. The project is part of the province’s plan to protect Ontario’s health-care system by investing $64 billion in more than 50 major hospital projects over the next 10 years.
“As Windsor-Essex continues to grow, our government is ensuring families and workers continue to have access to convenient, world-class health care services close to home, including through our $64 billion plan to build and upgrade more than 50 hospitals across Ontario,” said Premier Doug Ford. “With more than 100 additional beds, a 24/7 emergency department and surgical services, the new Fancsy Family Hospital will connect more patients to specialized care, where and when they need it.”
The new Fancsy Family Hospital will bring expanded acute care services together under one roof with a modern, approximately two-million square foot, state-of-the-art facility and deliver more connected, high-quality care for the Windsor region. Once completed, the new hospital will deliver:
- More space for over 100 additional beds to bring the total to nearly 600
- A new 24/7 emergency department
- World-class cancer care
- Complex trauma support
- Maternal and newborn care
- Surgical services and critical care
- Neurology and cardiology services
- More single-patient rooms to increase patient privacy and prevent the spread of infection.
“Our government is making historic investments to protect Ontario’s health-care system, ensuring that more people in Windsor-Essex can connect to the care they need, where and when they need it,” said Sylvia Jones, Deputy Premier and Minister of Health. “Today’s announcement marks another major milestone toward the new, state-of-the-art Fancsy Family Hospital, which will transform health care across the region. Once complete, it will provide patients and families with access to world-class hospital services for generations to come.”
Through Your Health: A Plan for Connected and Convenient Care, the province is expanding and modernizing Ontario’s hospitals, making it faster and easier for people of all ages to connect to high-quality care.
“Today’s groundbreaking of the new Fancsy Family Hospital is a defining milestone for Windsor-Essex. More than the start of construction, it marks the beginning of a new chapter in health care for our region. Premier Ford’s strong leadership and unwavering commitment to funding this world-class, state-of-the-art hospital demonstrates the Government of Ontario’s confidence in our community and its commitment to improving care for families across Windsor-Essex. We are proud to celebrate this historic achievement and the brighter, healthier future it will help build for generations to come.” – Andrew Dowie, MPP, Windsor—Tecumseh
