University of Windsor Law in the Defence of the Wrongfully Convicted and the Speakers Committee presented, Amanda Knox, on Friday March 10th in the Main Court Moot Court

Amanda Knox is the American woman who was studying in Perugia, Italy in 2007 and was subsequently tried and convicted for the murder of her roommate and British student, Meredith Kercher. Knox and her then-boyfriend, Rafaele Sollecito, were both found guilty of her murder.

In October 2011, Knox and Sollecito were acquitted. In March 2013, Italy’s final court of appeal overturned both acquittals and Knox was ordered to stand trial once again for the murder. They were again found guilty of the murder in February 2014, Knox receiving a 28½ year sentence.

The Supreme Court of Italy overturned her conviction in 2015. Since then, she began working as a freelance journalist, and wrote the best-selling book, “Waiting to Be Heard: A Memoir”. Her story is the subject of Amanda Knox, a Netflix documentary, which was released in 2016.

Before attending her speaking engagement at the University, Amanda took time for a quick breakfast the Maiden Lane’s “A Dog’s Breakfast”. Check our July/August copy of Biz X magazine for an in-depth interview with John Ansell and Steven Thompson, owners of A Dog’s Breakfast.
