Catholic Parishes Support Street Help During Challenging Time
Four local Catholic parishes have joined together to collect funds to support Street Help Windsor. This joint effort brought together parishioners from Good Shepherd in Lakeshore, Ste. Anne’s in Tecumseh, Paroisse St-Jérôme in Windsor, and St. Simon & St. Jude Parish in Belle River, in an effort to support those most in need during this difficult time. The parishes selected Street Help as their partner and together raised $16,115 to support their work to give aid to the homeless and those struggling to put food on their tables.
“As we work together with our partner parishes, we are amazed at the generosity of all those who contributed” shared Meghan Lauzon, a representative from the organizing committee. “We know this is a difficult time for all of us, and we are grateful for those who could donate to those individuals most in need. As our parishes slowly reopen, we will not forget about those who are without the basics like food and housing”.
Due to COVID, Street Help has transitioned to providing take-out instead of their traditional sit down meals, and are finding it difficult to keep up with the financial demands of running a take-out facility. This donation will assist them in their efforts as they adjust the operating model of their organization to accommodate public health guidelines.

These 4 parishes are working together in a model called a “Family of Parishes” that is being implemented across Catholic Parishes in the area. Together, these communities will share ideas, strategies, tools and resources. Instead of working independently, they will work together as a family, better focused on building disciples and welcoming new people. They believe that “we are better together”.
Street Help, located on Wyandotte St. E. was established in 1995 and is a drop-in centre operated for and by the homeless. Street Help not only gives the homeless services to better their own lives but provides them with the opportunity to help others in need. At Street Help in Windsor, our mission is to provide sanctuary from the streets where the homeless will be given the dignity to provide to themselves and to others the services they require.
