Habitat for Humanity Windsor-Essex & BK Cornerstone Design Build Announce more home builds in Historic Sandwich Town

Habitat for Humanity Windsor-Essex (HFHWE) has announced more homes to be built in Sandwich Town thanks to a Partnership with BK Cornerstone Design Build. The homes will be built on Peter Street on infill lots with the goal of assisting with the revitalization and densification needed in this historic neighborhood.

“Builders like BK Cornerstone are very aligned with our housing goals, and we believe that it is by working together that we can grow to meet the demand for affordable homeownership while renewing the housing stock in historic communities like sandwich town. Utilizing the skills and efficiencies of the BK Cornerstone team, has allowed our team to be able to focus on renovating existing affordable housing stock in the community, while also collaborating on larger future projects, that greater impact in our community and help more families facing housing insecurity.” Says Coughlin.

Fiona Coughlin, CEO, HFHWE

The Partnership with BK Cornerstone has grown out of event in 2021 when volunteers from the Windsor Essex Homebuilder’s association (WEBHA) descended upon HFHWE’s St. Luke build site and framed 4 Habitat homes in three days. This event was spearheaded by Brent Klundert of BK Cornerstone Design Build and Vince Lapico, VLC Custom Homes.

“We recognize the need for a variety of methods and initiatives to help resolve housing insecurity in our region”, says Brent Klundert, Vice President, BK Cornerstone Design Build. “The entire team at BK Cornerstone is proud to partner with Habitat again to contribute to these initiatives, and to support members of our community.”

Habitat homes are built with partner families who become homeowners and pay a geared to income mortgage which is then used to build more homes. This revolving build fund is called “The Fund for Humanity.”

The new homes will be built with a family of seven and a family of four. The homes will shelter children aged 3 months to 10 years. For these families the soaring costs of rentals have placed the dream of safe, stable housing out of reach, casting a shadow of uncertainty over their future. For these families, homeownership is more than just a dream—it’s the key to a future and where their family can finally lay down roots and grow together.

There are many more families in need of safe decent affordable homes. Habitat for Humanity relies on donations, volunteerism, and partnership to meet this growing need.
