On August 19th, 2021, the 10th Annual John Atkinson Memorial Golf Tournament was held. Since 2010, a golf tournament has been held annually (except for last year) in memory of Senior Constable John Atkinson who was shot and killed in the line of duty in 2006. All proceeds raised from the Constable John Atkinson Memorial Golf Tournament are donated to the Constable John Atkinson Memorial Scholarship Fund held at the WindsorEssex Community Foundation (WECF). Since 2018, six students have received a scholarship on behalf of the Constable John Atkinson Memorial Scholarship Fund at the WECF to support their dreams of pursuing a career in law enforcement.
The Constable John Atkinson Memorial Scholarship Fund was established in honour of Senior Constable John Atkinson of the Windsor Police Service, who was killed in the line of duty on May 5, 2006. Each year the organizers of the Fund host an annual golf tournament to raise funds to help build the Constable John Atkinson Memorial Scholarship Fund to grant scholarships to students pursuing a career in law enforcement. Since 2018, six students have received a scholarship on behalf of the Constable John Atkinson Memorial Scholarship Fund at the WECF.
