Windsor Fire’s “Wake Up” Program Once Again Hits the Streets

To combat widespread non-compliance with the Ontario Fire Code’s smoke alarm requirements across our community, Windsor Fire and Rescue Services announces the 2017 Wake Up Windsor! Get A Working Smoke Alarm home inspection program. The purpose of Wake Up, which was initiated in 2013, is to visit all single family dwellings to ensure smoke alarm and carbon monoxide alarm compliance.  In addition to the visits, residents will be provided with fire safety and home escape planning information.

The program begins Tuesday, May 9 and will run on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays (weather permitting) until June 24.

Our stats from the successful 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016 campaigns are:

  • Number of homes visited: 27,682
  • Total number of smoke alarms and batteries installed: 4,981
