Local Pizzeria Serves Up Dough-Nation
Antonino’s Original Pizza owner Joe Ciaravino has been known to say pizza sauce runs through his veins, but it appears giving back does as well.
As part of Heart Month each February, the pizzeria’s three locations in South Windsor, LaSalle and Tecumseh run a heart-shaped pizza fundraiser where $1 from the sale of every heart-shaped pizza and heart-shaped dessert goes to support the cardiac program at Windsor Regional Hospital.
Ciaravino says the campaign is a win-win for the community and the hospital, as it gives a chance for residents to say “I love you” while also raising funds in support of local cardiac care.
Antonino’s also sells paper hearts during the month of February covering the restaurant’s windows in red to further support the campaign.
“We’d really like to thank our customers for purchasing paper hearts every year,” says Ciaravino. “A majority of the money raised comes from the sale of those paper hearts.”
Thanks to the community’s support, Antonino’s is donating $7,168 this year through the heartshaped pizza initiative which was launched in 2011.
“The WRH Foundation is grateful to Joe and the team at Antonino’s for their years of support when it comes to purchasing equipment for the cardiac program,” says WRH Foundation Board President Beth Ann Prince. “We look forward to seeing and eating heart-shaped pizza every year and appreciate all those who buy pizzas and paper hearts!”
