A massive world wide ransomware attack, launched yesterday is spreading quickly
This world wide ransomware attack comes in the form of emails with infected attachments. Because it is brand new, many anti-virus programs do not yet recognize the threat. It is already responsible for shutting down a major health-care network in the UK, and several other high-profile corporations world-wide, and the attack affects all computers connected to a common network.
Microsoft issued a patch back in March to close the loophole – however it is only effective if your operating system is still supported, and if you apply patches as they are received.
Users of Windows XP are not protected from this new strain.
You are advised to immediately apply patches from Microsoft, and to protect yourself from ransomware by performing backups of your systems and installing effective anti-ransomware software.
