Alzheimer Society Celebrates National Caregiver Day with Caregiver Spa and Launch of New Matching Gift Campaign

Caring for someone with dementia is a 24/7 job that rarely allows for breaks or time off. Without the care and rest they need, caregivers are at risk of increased stress, health problems, and eventually, burnout. On Tuesday, April 4, 2017, National Caregiver Day, The Alzheimer Society and Jim Scott, CEO of Ground Effects Ltd. will show their support for these unsung heroes and treat them to a day of rest and relaxation at our Caregiver Spa.

Caregivers that work with persons with dementia have been invited to spend the day enjoying spa services like massage, reflexology, manicures, and more, courtesy of local individuals and businesses.

National Caregiver Day also marks the official kick off to CaregiverRx, a three month matching gift campaign for the Alzheimer Society of Windsor & Essex County, supported by Ground Effects Ltd.

“We see a growing need for services that support both the person with a dementia diagnosis and the person caring for them,” said Scott, “To ensure there are programs locally is increasingly important as our population ages.”

“We are encouraging the community to show support for these caregivers during this matching gift campaign, to let them know we are in it with them. We are honoured to provide these caregivers with a chance to rest and relax at the spa,” said Peggy Winch, Manager of Fund Development & Community Engagement at ASWE.

Ground Effects Ltd. has pledged $15,000 to ASWE if generous donors can raise the same amount by June 30, 2017.  That means all donations coming in during that time frame will count 2x!

Dementia is one of the fastest-growing diseases of our time and there is no cure. Locally, ASWE provides programs and services to address the current needs of over 2,800 persons diagnosed with dementia and their partners in care, and that number is growing.
