A Windsor musician is raising awareness about childhood poverty by releasing a new song in an effort to raise funds for a local charity. Andy Aodisho is a United Way/Centraide Windsor-Essex County Champion at Reliance Home Comfort and an active member of the non-profit’s Emerging Philanthropists (EP) group. His song #UNIGNORABLE speaks to the issues some young people face when their families are trying to make ends meet.

“I see childhood poverty in our community on a regular basis. I visit customer homes daily, sometimes for eight hours a day, and I see the conditions some children live in. I come from humble beginnings, and now that I am fortunate enough to give, I feel it’s my responsibility to share with those who are less fortunate.” – Andy Aodisho

Aodisho got the idea after attending United Way’s #UNIGNORABLE Campaign Kick-Off event in 2019, where the audience was asked to write on a post-it note what they could do to help make change in our community. Andy wrote “make a song”. A few weeks later he was installing a furnace and air conditioner in a home that just so happened to have a recording studio. “I felt like it was a sign,” says Andy. With the help of Sound Producer Kevin Robert Jarvis (KRJ Studio) and Video Producer George Yokhana (@george.yokhana) Andy wrote, recorded and shot a video for the song.

Through his artistry, Andy is helping to raise $40,000 towards the Fall 2021 launch of a new Downtown Windsor cohort of students for United Way’s On Track to Success program. United Way’s Emerging Philanthropists are hosting an UNevent fundraiser to help launch the program, which is an expansion of the existing program operating in West Windsor and Leamington. Aodisho and other members of EP are asking the community not to attend an event, but rather to consider taking the money they would have spent on an expensive night out and invest it in the On Track to Success Program.
