Windsor Essex Child/Youth Advocacy Centre Raises $17, 548

Thanks to the generosity of Windsor Essex County residents, ENWIN Utilities and Your Neighbourhood Credit Union (YNCU), the Windsor Essex Child/Youth Advocacy Centre (WECYAC) will be able to meet increased demand to provide advocacy services to local children and youth who are victims of abuse.

From November 1 to December 28, 2021, $5 was donated for every new sign-up on ENWIN’s e- bill program.

“We set a goal for $5,000 and have exceeded that in raising over $6,000 for such a worthy organization,” states Robert Spagnuolo Director of Customer Service and Privacy, “We have to thank the local Windsor community for joining us in this promotion, enlisting in our e-bill program, and helping us support WECYAC.”

ENWIN’s promotion coincided with WECYAC’s annual giving campaign where Your Neighbourhood Credit Union matched donations dollar for dollar with a final amount of $5000.

“Here at YNCU, one of our pillars for community support is helping local children and families in need. We believe in this cause and admire the work that the WECYAC does for youth in our neighbourhood.”

Between both organizations and the community, $17,548 was donated to WECYAC who provides services to diverse populations of children, youth, and their supporting family members by offering a safe, neutral, and trauma-informed space to disclose their abuse to a specially trained team of professionals. In addition, donations will be used to provide caregivers with a consistent and comprehensive network of support and referral services to reduce trauma and support healing.

“We are so honoured and pleased with the donations from the community, ENWIN Utilities and Your Neighbourhood Credit Union,” says Lynda Ware, President & Board Chair of WECYAC. “On behalf of myself, Board of Directors and Staff, we would like to thank everyone that made this possible.”

Dr. Nila Das, Interim Executive Director of WECYAC adds: “Children are the most vulnerable citizen of any community. The future of a successful nation. It is our joint responsibility to protect our children and provide a safe nurturing respectful environment to grow and prosper. I would like to express my sincere gratitude to both organizations and community for their support of WECYAC and its vision of being a safe, responsive environment that provides advocacy and healing for children/youth victims of abuse.”

WECYAC provides a child-centred, safe location for children/youth to disclose their abuse to a specially trained team of professionals. Prior to WECYAC, children/youth subjected to abuse were interviewed in several locations around the community, by multiple different professionals. WECYAC minimizes the number of times children/youth must tell their story, reducing the trauma of disclosure.
