Amherstburg Farmers Market Continues to Thrive at GL Heritage Brewery

With hometown roots now planted firmly in the ground, the Amherstburg Farmers Market (AFM) is ready to blossom once again at GL Heritage Brewery as they kick off another very exciting season of bringing local businesses and the community together.

Celebrating their 12th year of serving the residents of Amherstburg and the greater Essex County, the Amherstburg Farmers Market is pleased to announce its return to GL Heritage Brewing Company, located at 8728 Howard Avenue this weekend. The 2022 Season is the 3rd season at the agricultural-based, small batch, and local family-run brewery. The deliberate focus on local collaboration and high quality artisan offerings from GL Heritage has made for a growing partnership for the small town, community-based market. Since relocating from the former market location known as the landmark “Little White Church” in 2020, sales volumes have more than tripled, and the roster of diverse and eager vendors has grown to well over 60 full time and part time participants.

The market season runs April 9, 2022 through October 29 and will be held every Saturday (rain or shine) from 8:30 am until 1:30 pm on the grounds of GL Heritage Brewery.

Each week will showcase 40+ high-quality vendors featuring produce and crafted products from Essex County. You will have access to fresh seasonal vegetables, fruit, herbs and fresh-cut flowers; home-made pies, scones, cookies and breads; prepared meals; craft beer and wines; fresh-roasted coffee; spices, jams and preserves; pet treats; natural-made products such as soaps, candles, pottery, jewellry, sewn goods, woodwork and artwork. Every week the market also offers a sit down or “to go” breakfast from a local food vendor, starting at 8:30am. The Hub Operated by Samantha Buhler will be serving breakfast for AFM’s opening day. The brewery will open at 9am with cold beer ready to be picked up or enjoyed inside or on the covered and open patio. Live, local music will be performed from 10 am to 1 pm each week, with Gregg Steiner in the starting lineup this weekend. GL Heritage Brewery is always pet-friendly and family-friendly.

Applications for market vendors and local charities are still being accepted. Creative and imaginative vendors with expertise in their craft, whether it be growing things or making things locally, are encouraged to apply. If you are interested in being featured at the 2022 Amherstburg Farmers Market or volunteering with this non-profit market, please contact organizers for applications and more information.

The Amherstburg Farmers Market is a great opportunity to buy local, support your neighbours, and get access to fresh and healthy food, as well as unique, quality-made items you won’t find in stores. Come out this market season to meet the friendly folks who make the Amherstburg Farmers Market feel like home.

Awarded Amherstburg’s 2021 Community Builder of the Year and a Gold Level Brewery, GL Heritage Brewing Company is a family-owned and -operated brewhouse, tasting room, beer patio and retail shop in historic Amherstburg, Ontario. Nestled on a century farm, these 7th generation family members built the only agricultural-based brewery in the region on land first settled by their ancestors over 172 years ago – and land they still raise their families on today. GL Heritage opened their doors in the booming local brewery, distillery and winery scene in July 2017 to add a great stop where you can expect award-winning hand-crafted beer and good people to welcome you. Each weekend, GL Heritage partners up with a different local food vendor to serve you delicious eats alongside their premium craft beer tap selection. Now open every Friday 3-9pm, Saturday 9am-5pm and Sunday noon-5pm. Ask for GL Heritage craft beer served at 30+ establishments across Essex County.

“As a local, homegrown craft brewery focused on bringing the community together, the farmers market environment is a natural step to our agricultural offering on site. Since we opened our doors almost 5 years ago, we have always searched out new and interesting ways to collaborate with other local entrepreneurs, small businesses and artisans to bring unique products and experiences to Amherstburg. Hosting the AFM on site brings that collaboration and neighbouring business support to a new level.”, says GL Heritage Brewing Company co-owner and Head of AFM Marketing, Jen Desjardins-Grondin. “Positioned on a high-traffic passage through Amherstburg, the partnership of the Amherstburg Farmers Market and GL Heritage Brewing Company creates a new, healthy and vibrant community hub for our hometown. It offers a forum to showcase the incredible products our town and region has to offer residents and visitors alike.”

The Amherstburg Farmers Market has been a well-known, weekly rural market for local agricultural offerings, fresh and prepared food, and craft products for the last 11 years. Entering into its 12th anniversary in 2022, the mission of the Amherstburg Farmers Market continues: To maintain an accessible hub to showcase local products and to cultivate an environment for community connection. We believe our focus on artisan creations and healthy foods offered by local farms and businesses supports rural economic development and healthy living in our community.

“We are excited about our continued partnership with GL Heritage Brewery, a local business with proven success within a short period. When opportunity knocked to be at GL Heritage Brewery – it was a perfect pairing. The Amherstburg Farmers Market vendors really love what we do and we have created a proud family among all of us.”, explains AFM Manager, Rita Casagrande. “That said, we always welcome new “family” members to our existing offering, to be a part of the ‘Buy Local, Celebrate Local’ movement. Come, stroll through the market and then enjoy a refreshing craft beer and food at GL Heritage.”
