Canada Summer Jobs 2016/17 set to begin Monday May 9th
Brian Masse MP (Windsor West) has announced that applicants approved for funding through the Canada Summer Jobs Program will be able to hire students as early as this Monday May 9th 2016.
Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ) creates summer job opportunities and valuable work experience specifically intended for youth aged 15 to 30 planning to return to their studies in the next school year. The program aims to assist employers create summer job opportunities that focus on priorities important to our local community.
Funding will support employment, skills development and community service opportunities for students in Windsor West. Opportunities will focus on organizations that provide programs and services for children, youth at risk, newcomers, seniors and persons with disabilities. Approximately 100 organizations have been approved in the riding of Windsor West.
Funding for the CSJ program has doubled to $220 million annually for the next three years beginning in 2016. This new funding will help increase the number of youth who can be hired nationally from just over 34,000 in 2015 to up to 70,000 this summer.
Masse stated, “By investing in our youth together, we are helping them build a stronger future and obtain the skills and experience they need to contribute to the long term economic growth of our community.”
