BIZ X ON LOCATION: River Lights Winter Festival 2024, Downtown Amherstburg

In the air, on land, Biz X is everywhere!

For this installment of our video series, our drone flies over the Opening Ceremonies (held November 16, 2024) of a beloved holiday event in Amherstburg. Our videographer conducts an interview with Sarah Van Grinsven, Tourism Coordinator for the Town of Amherstburg who informs Biz X about the upcoming activities for the River Lights Winter Festival.

Held this year from November 16, 2024 to January 5, 2025 this festival is a cherished holiday tradition. It transforms the town into a dazzling wonderland of lights and seasonal joy.

Each evening, visitors are treated to a spectacle as hundreds of custom light displays illuminate the town’s main parks, inviting families, friends, and holiday enthusiasts to immerse themselves in festive splendor.

King’s Navy Yard Park

Set along the scenic Detroit River, showcases timeless, heartwarming displays that embody the spirit of the season, featuring carollers, angels, soldiers, and more. These displays evoke nostalgia and create a serene atmosphere perfect for evening strolls by the river.

On the other side, Toddy Jones Park delights with whimsical, playful lights. These lights are designed to captivate both children and those young at heart. The park’s creative scenes inspire awe and laughter, adding a touch of holiday magic to every visit.

A highlight of the festival is the life-sized Gingerbread Warming House. The house is sponsored by Pathway to Potential, which opens its doors every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Here, guests can warm up with complimentary hot chocolate, while children are invited to create holiday crafts with cheerful elves. On Sundays, special holiday story times enchant young listeners and bring tales of winter to life. This cozy space is a haven of warmth and joy, providing a welcoming spot for families to gather and celebrate.

Accessible to all, the festival’s attractions are offered for free and continue through December 22. The light displays remain until January 5, 2025.

The River Lights Winter Festival is a glowing testament to Amherstburg’s holiday spirit, fostering community, joy, and cherished memories.

Deborah Jones – Publisher of Biz X Magazine Deborah Jones graduated from the University of Windsor with an Honours Degree in Communication Studies and was employed at two other local magazines shortly after for a few years learning all she could about writing, advertising, public relations and more. She made the jump in 1998 to go out on her own to publish Biz X magazine and has worked in the publishing industry since 1990. In 2007, she earned the “Entrepreneur of the Year” award from the Windsor & District Chamber of Commerce. To date, she is the ONLY woman so far to receive this award. In 2013, she received one of the first “Windsor Women of the Year” awards from the Ladies Exclusive Alliance. Her most recent achievement is the 2023 Media Award from the Windsor Essex Chapter of the Kidney Foundation of Canada. Deborah is proud to live in Windsor and truly cares about each and every business and strives to make Windsor Essex the best place to live, work and play.
