STROLL WINDSOR KICKS OFF “CALENDAR OF STROLLS” IN FORD CITY
A new initiative encouraging residents and visitors to take a stroll in Windsor’s urban villages is launching in Ford City on Saturday, July 14 from 10:30am to 1:30pm.
Stroll Windsor is a grassroots, community initiative that supports, celebrates, and promotes meaningful pedestrian experiences and interactions, to foster the tradition of strolling and encourage people to discover (or re-discover) the city’s diverse neighbourhoods and local businesses.
“We are celebrating the tradition of strolling along our main streets and in our neighbourhoods”, said program organizer and Walkerville resident Justin Lafontaine. “It’s not a one-off event, but an ongoing calendar of strolls.”
A “Calendar of Strolls” includes dates this summer and fall when participating BIAs, local businesses and community organizations will have something special in store for participants, like free samples, tastings, tours, promos, art, installations, demos, historical tidbits, casual conversation and more. Kids activities too!
Tuesday night strolls are being promoted to business, professional, student and language networking groups to break out of their boardrooms and do neighbourhood “Walk ‘n Talks”.
Stroll Windsor’s community partners include the City of Windsor – Arts, Culture & Heritage Fund, Ford City Residents in Action, Ford City BIA, Walkerville BIA, Via Italia BIA, Wyandotte Town Centre BIA, and Tourism Windsor Essex Pelee Island.
“The excitement around Ford City is building every day”, said Kayla Lessard, Residents Engagement Coordinator at Ford City Neighbourhood Renewal. “We are looking forward to welcoming people from across Windsor to meet and discover our local businesses and vibrant community”.
