1950s SCIENCE FICTION SPOOF “VAMPIRE ZOMBIES…FROM SPACE!” PREPS FOR PRODUCTION

The 1950s sci-fi spoof VAMPIRE ZOMBIES…FROM SPACE! is going into production August 8, 2022 and the filmmaking team is nearly halfway funded in their Kickstarter campaign. If you put the films of Mel Brooks, Ed Wood and the humor of South Park into a blender you’d get VAMPIRE ZOMBIES…FROM SPACE! an over-the-top comedy feature that pays homage to, and satirizes, sci-fi and horror films from the past.

From the depths of space, Dracula has devised his most dastardly plan yet, turning the residents of a small American town into his personal army of vampire zombies! A motley crew consisting of a grizzled detective, hot-shot rookie cop, chain-smoking greaser, and determined young woman band together to save the world from — (see title).

Bringing the thrills of Hollywood to Windsor-Essex, Vampire Zombies…from Space! will employ a large cast of local talent. Veteran local actors Mark Lefebvre, Ed Hooft, and Oliver Georgiou will play alongside local newcomers Jessica Antov and Rashaun Baldeo. The film will also bring actors Andrew Bee (The Suicide Squad), and Simon Reynolds (Saw IV) from Toronto and feature cameo roles from legendary B-Movie producer Lloyd Kaufman (The Toxic Avenger, Guardians of the Galaxy) and a host of others to be shot early next year.

The film will employ an entirely local crew providing real world filmmaking experience for recent University of Windsor graduates. It will also utilize talented and experienced local filmmakers, including Ken Amlin (of Smog Town Films) as director of photography, and Mitchell Branget & Sebastien Gaspar-Woods on special effects.

At the helm is veteran Windsor director and University of Windsor professor Mike Stasko (Boys vs. Girls, The Birder). Stasko’s past films have played in festivals around the world and featured the likes of Fred Willard, (Anchorman, Best in Show) Ray Wise, (Twin Peaks, Robocop) Colin Mochrie, (Whose Line is it Anyway?) Tom Cavanaugh, (The Flash) Graham Greene, (Dances with Wolves) and Kevin McDonald (The Kids in the Hall, That 70s Show). Vampire Zombies … from Space! is Stasko’s sixth feature film, and is primed to be the biggest, and best, yet. Stasko adds: “We’re always trying to push ourselves as local filmmakers, and this production raises a lot of bars for us. From the period costumes being created by Emily Eansor, to the very challenging Vampire & Zombie make-up being done by Stephanie Johnston.”

“VAMPIRE ZOMBIES…FROM SPACE!” is co-written and co-produced by Fun Uncle comedy sketch duo’s Jakob Skrzypa, an Essex native who has served as a producer for MTV/Paramount’s The Challenge, has worked on Survivor, Big Brother Canada, Nathan for You and as a remote editor for Troma entertainment.

The film will utilize historic Windsor-Essex locations including the Low-Martin mansion, Canadian Transportation Museum & Heritage Village, The Essex Railway Station, Essex United Church, and La Rocca restaurant & Bar. “It’s really exciting to think about seeing your regular bar on the big screen!” says writer-producer Alex Forman. With locations selected in Harrow, Kingsville, Windsor, and Mcgregor, the film will show to the world what Windsor-Essex is all about.

All major casting has been completed, with so much local talent you should recognize a face or two. With the production ramping up to begin in a few weeks, it’s your chance to be featured in the film as a background performer. Reach out to [email protected] for more information on how you could be seen on the big screen, or if you are interested in investing in the film.

The film has secured funding, but the filmmakers have launched a Kickstarter campaign to help round out the budget and make sure it’s filled with gruesome practical effects, b-movie miniatures, and gut-busting laughs. With just under two weeks left, now is the best time to show your support and receive exclusive perks and rewards.

The Kickstarter campaign started July 5, 2022 and runs for 30 days.
