City of Windsor Proclaims December 1st, 2022 World AIDS Day
As World AIDS Day is rapidly approaching, Pozitive Pathways Community Services is continuing to work on World AIDS Day activities to ensure different spaces that acknowledge those living with HIV and those that we have lost over the many decades. This year the theme is “Equalize” which looks at the inequalities that continue to impact many of our key populations in terms of HIV testing, treatment, and connection to care.
Please join at:
- World AIDS Day Flag Raising, at Charles Clark Square on Thursday, December 1st @ 11:00 am: This will be a first for the organization and we look forward to an informal gathering to acknowledge the raising of the flag. A reading of our proclamation and a few words by agency speakers will also take place.
- Community Vigil Walk (From PPCS to Art Windsor Essex) on Thursday, December 1st from 5:00 to 5:45 pm: The Community Vigil Walk provides an opportunity for PPCS, and our community to bring focus and awareness that HIV continues to exist in our community and that the journey continues to address barriers in access to testing, treatment, and self-determination over one’s health outcomes. We also light our candles to acknowledge our grief and loss over those who are no longer with us. This year we bring with us key messages regarding the global theme of “Equalize”.
- Community Vigil (Art Windsor Essex) on Thursday, December 1st from 5:45 pm to 7:00 pm: The pandemic has created many issues for individuals who want to reduce social isolation and share and support each other. WAD vigils and acknowledgments have been online or hybrid and made connection challenging. This year will only be an -in-person event with personal PPE available. We are looking to put focus on WORLD AIDS Day messaging through the lens of the Indigenous and African, Caribbean, and Black communities. Please join us for candle lighting and shared fellowship.
- World AIDS Day Virtual Memorial Quilt is now posted on the website. We acknowledge that not everyone will be able to attend or participate in person. Whether you are planning to attend an event or not, please take a moment to visit the page link below and fill out the form to honour someone you know. The entries will be added as patches to the quilt. Please feel free to share with your networks so that others can honour their loved ones as well. (** Please Note: Entries go thru an approval process, for anonymity protection, so you won’t see them on the page until they have been reviewed and approved.)
